Local officials of Manaoag highlighted the patriotism of Manaoagueños during the commemoration of the 121st Anniversary of Philippine Independence which was staged in front of the Municipal Hall this morning.
The celebration was highlighted by the flag-raising ceremony and wreath-laying activity at the monument of Dr. Jose P. Rizal headed by Mayor Kim Mikael G. Amador, Sangguniang Bayan Officials led by Vice-Mayor Domyciano Z. Ching, LIGA ng mga Barangay, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Manaoag, Federated Senior Citizens Association of Manaoag, Philippine National Police-Manaoag Police Station led by Chief of Police Reinweck Alamay, the 54th Engineering Brigade and 1st Regional Community Defense Group of the Philippine Army, LGBTQ Manaoag and FMTODA.
It was anchored on the theme “Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan” and was made possible by the joint efforts of the Mayor’s Office, Tourism Department and the Municipal Special Events Committee.
SK Federation President did the honors in leading the Panunumpa ng Karapatan sa Watawat ng Pilipinas followed by the Opening Prayer which was led by Sis. Lorenza Sajul, OP, Mother Superior of the Dominican Sisters Manaoag Convent. Vice-Mayor Ching welcomed the guests and everyone in attendance as he paid tribute to the courage and bravery of our heroes which brought forth our independence.
Mayor Kim, in his speech, reminded everyone that in commemoration of Araw ng Kalayaan, “huwag po sana nating kalimutan ang pagkakawang-gawa, pagtutulungan at pagmamalasakit dahil ito ang ibinuwis ng ating mga bayani para sa ating kalayaan na ating tinatamasa ngayon”.
Col. Francis B. Cabugon, INF (GSC) PA, Group Commander of the 1st Regional Community Defense Group, ARESCOM of Camp Lt. Tito B. Abat shared a moment of Philippine History citing our revolutionary heroes of the Magdiwang group led by Andres Bonifacio and Magdalo group which was led then by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. He signified the importance of independence, giving credit to our heroes who rose up in arms and died for our freedom.
Dr. Erna Nebran, DepEd Manaoag District Supervisor, for the 2nd straight year, ended the program in a good note with a rather feisty and spunky speech to the delight of the crowd.
Providing intermission numbers were the Manaoag Central School Folk Dance Troupe, Manaoag
National High School Special Program for the Arts and Manaoag Teachers Folk Dancers.
Also in attendance were personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Manaoag Water District led by General Manager Josie DV. Villanueva, Veterans Association of Manaoag, Public and Private Schools of the Department of Education Manaoag District, Manaoag Farmers Association and LGU employees lead by Department Heads’ Carlito P. Hernando, Municipal Administrator, Local Civil Registrar Sheila E. Garcia, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Myrna Abar Dacanay, Municipal Engineer Rey Mangonon Galano, Municipal Budget Officer Engr. Edgardo A. Valdez, Municipal Local Government Operations Officer IV Jeoy Carino Agustin, Municipal Agriculturist Engr. Arnold Raul E. Geronimo, Tourism Officer Norylyn P. Tamayo-Ijiran and COMELEC Election Officer III Rodel Madarang Realubin.
Culminating the event was the ceremonial flying of balloons as Manaoaguenos expressed their gratefulness for freedom with a special rendition of the song “Tagumpay Nating Lahat” by Ms. Josiah Beth Quiros.

Independence Day (Araw ng Kalayaan) is an annual National Holiday in the country observed every June 12 as a commemoration of Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898.
